Vanessa -- hamlet in Windham Township, Lots 5 and 6, Concessions 3 and 4. On Regional Road 4 north of Windham Centre. Named by post office in 1876. The 8 Mar 1882 British Canadian reported the Vanessa post office had revenue of $124.28 and salaries of $26; the 14 Mar 1888 British Canadian newspaper reported the Vanessa post office had revenue of $259.89 and salaries of $80 in the year ending 30 Jun 1887.  The 12 Dec 1912 Simcoe Reformer reported the Vanessa post office had revenue of $252.62 and salaries of $131.38. Once the site of Windham S. S. 2 school house. In 2002 site of church, cemetery, variety store/gas station combo, a second variety store, and several dozen homes, several new [GPS:58.180/23.720]

Varency --hamlet in Woodhouse Township, in Lot 24, Concession 5. On Highway 6, south of Jarvis. Called Long’s Mill for Robert Long who had lumber mill there in mid-1800s. Renamed when post office opened in 1881. Not listed as post office site in 1882 or 1888. No trace remains [GPS:50.830/08.130]

hamlet in Woodhouse Township, Lot 19, Concession 1. On Lake Erie along the Lakeshore Road, three miles east of Port Dover.

Venison Creek -- major stream, rises in Middleton Township, flows south through west Walsingham Township to Big Creek.

Victor -- location undetermined. The 14 Mar 1888 British Canadian newspaper reported the Victor post office had revenue of $66.95 and salaries of $11.50 in the year ending 30 Jun 1887.

Villa Nova -- hamlet in Townsend Township on Lots 18 and 19 Concessions 8 and 9. East of Waterford, at intersection of Regional Roads 9 and 39. Called Buck’s Corners for a family who lived there. Renamed by local cooper Jacob Goble who arrived in 1833, possibly for town in Portugal that was a battle site in War of 1812. The 8 Mar 1882 British Canadian reported the Villanova [sic] post office had revenue of $151.18 and salaries of $38; the 14 Mar 1888 British Canadian newspaper reported the Villa Nova post office had revenue of $168.32 and salaries of $72 in the year ending 30 Jun 1887. The 12 Dec 1912 Simcoe Reformer reported the Villa Nova post office had revenue of $224.96 and salaries of $138.64. Once site of Townsend S. S. 14 school house. In 1898 high school students living a Villa Nova took the train to Waterford High. [GPS:56.284/12.210]

Vittoria -- village in Charlotteville Township, on Lots 19 and 20, Concessions 3 and 4. On Regional Road 3, west of Highway 24, southwest of Simcoe, at the East Quarter Line Road. First called Tisdale’s Mills for family grist mill on Young’s Creek. Walter Anderson and his daughter Rebecca began severage for village by 1814. Capital of London District 1815-1827. Named in 1818 for Vittoria, Spain, where Wellington had a victory over Napoleon’s forces in War of 1812. First post office in county opened there in 1816 (named "Long Point"). Was seat of Divisional Court, home of Charlotteville Township Hall. Historic plaque at the Anglican Church commemorates former capital. Site of St. Andrews Presbyterian/United Church and Cemetery.
