William Abbott (c. 1765- ), a carpenter, lived in Fryeburg, Oxford County, Maine and married three times. He moved to Quebec by 1812 settling south of Montreal and served in the local militia at Isle aux Noix during the war of 1812-14. William brought his family to Norfolk County about 1817 and settled on a farm in Middleton Township. He then moved to Mersea Township, Essex County by 1829. His son Timothy Abbott (1800-1878) stayed in Norfolk and married Phoebe Brown, a daughter of pioneer Samuel Brown. The couple settled in Erie View, Walsingham Township. Younger son Robert Abbott (1802-1885) married Hannah Sherman and farmed beside his brother Timothy until 1856 when they moved to a farm in Bloomer Twp., Montcalm Co., Michigan and founded the village of Carson City. Adams, George R. (1801-1834) and his wife Catherine Rose came from Quebec and settled in Walpole Township, Haldimand County where he died. His widow was left with a young family and remarried Martin Boughner. The Adams children were then raised in the Boughner household in Windham Twp. Son Lemuel Erastus Adams (1827- 1903) farmed in Windham Township then in Genessee Co., Michigan. His brother George M. Adams (1830-1912) was a cooper and brick maker in Simcoe. Adams. John David (1795-1858) immigrated from England to Charlotteville Township by 1821 when he married Elizabeth Hoffman. The couple lived for a time on Wolfe Island, Frontenac County then returned to Charlotteville Township and farmed north of Walsh. Includes four generations in Norfolk County and Michigan. Descendant surname included: Longhurst

Adams, Thomas (1766-1854) came with his parents from Londonderry, Ireland to the Genessee River Valley of New York in 1785. Thomas arrived in Grantham Township, Lincoln County, Upper Canada in 1797 and built a tavern on Twelve Mile Creek. Thomas married Margaret Disher and settled later near Smithville at what became known as Adams Corners. His son Thomas Wilson Adams (c. 1806-), a blacksmith, married Mary Wilcox and came to Norfolk County during the 1840’s. They settled in Charlotteville Township then later in Houghton Township. His uncle George Adams (1771-1844) was a farmer, tanner and currier at St. Catharines. Includes five generations in Lincoln and Norfolk Counties and elsewhere. Adams, Uriah (c.1790- c.1817) came to Townsend Township in 1808 and married Mary Fairchild a daughter of pioneer Peter Fairchild. The couple lived in the area of Boston, Townsend Township until Uriah died leaving his widow with three young children. Mary then married Abraham Nelles and the Adams children were raised in the Nelles household south of Boston. Son Uriah Adams (1814-1893) was a farmer and butcher in Townsend Twp. Includes four generations in Norfolk County and elsewhere

Aker, Garrett (c. 1802-1866) and his wife Jane Mulholland setted in Walsingham Township by 1850. Includes three generations of nineteenth century descendants in Norfolk County and elsewhere

Alexander, Hugh (c.1755-1817/21) came from Scotland to Albany, New York during colonial times and during the American Revolution served in Butler's Rangers.  Later, he and his wife lived at Fort Erie, Welland County, Upper Canada, and then at Port Dover, Woodhouse Township, where Hugh was a prominent merchant and founder of the community. Allan, Alexander Kennedy (1812-1898) and his wife Elizabeth Sutherland lived in South Ronaldsay, Orkney Islands, Scotland and came to Ontario in 1842. They settled in Port Rowan, Walsingham Township. by 1850. Includes children and grandchildren

Allan of Port Dover: George (c. 1822-), James (1839-1907), William (c. 1829-) and George F. (c. 1826-) all came from Scotland and were recorded together in the 1852 Census of Woodhouse Township. They were ship captains on the Great Lakes. Includes children 

Allen, Ralph (c. 1813) came from the United States and settled in Simcoe
then Townsend Township. Includes children and grandchildren

Allgeo, John (1791-1877) came from Dutchess County, New York and settled near Simcoe about 1827. Includes three generations of descendants

Almas, Christian (1752-1843) came from Germany with the Hessian troops during the American Revolution and married Magdalena Baker. They came to Upper Canada (Ontario) in 1787 and settled in Ancaster Township, Wentworth County. Includes four generations of descendants in Norfolk County and elsewhere
   
Alward, Daniel (c. 1727-1800/1) lived in New Jersey during colonial times.  Following the American Revolution he settled in New Brunswick then moved to Bertie Township, Welland County, Upper Canada.  His son Reuben Alward settled in Charlotteville Township.  Two sons of Daniel’s other son, James, also took up residence in Norfolk. Includes four three generations of descendants from Daniel in Norfolk and elsewhere

Alway, Sarah (Stafford) (1805-1886) widow of Robert Alway settled with her children at Rockford, Townsend Township. Includes three generations of descendants. Mark Alway (1817-1900) emigrated from England before 1846 and settled in Oxford County, then at Simcoe. Includes children and grandchildren

Anderson, Charles (1759-1829) came from Antrim County, Ireland to Grimsby Twp., Lincoln Co., Ontario and married Ann Nelles. Several grandchildren lived for a time in Townsend Twp., Norfolk Co. Includes five generations of descendants 

Anderson, Jeremiah (1763-1857) begins with his father John Anderson who came from Great Britain during the Seven Years War and settled at Athens, Greene County, New York.  Following the American Revolution, Jeremiah settled in New Brunswick where he married Elizabeth Baker. Later, they settled in Charlotteville Township and finally Bayham Township, Elgin County. Includes five generations of nineteenth century descendants in Norfolk County and elsewhere

Anderson, John (1817-1900) came from Edinburgh, Scotland to Ontario by 1844 and with his wife Mary Ferguson lived first in either North or South Dumfries Township then settled soon after in Townsend Township near the village of Bealton. Includes children and grandchildren in Norfolk and Kent Counties. Surnames included: Goold, Weir

Anderson, Walter (1753/4-1818) immigrated from Edinburgh, Scotland to New Jersey before the American Revolution in which he served.  Following the war, he and his wife Mary settled in Nova Scotia before moving to Charlotteville Township in 1797.  Includes four generations of nineteenth century descendants in Norfolk County and elsewhere

(1809-1891) and Laura Brookins settled in Charlotteville Township.  Includes their children.  George Vanalt Anderson and Jemima Walsh lived in Charlotteville Township during the 1830’s. Joseph and Mary Ann Anderson immigrated from Ireland and lived in Woodhouse Township.  Includes their son John Anderson (1814-1884) and his wife Eliza Doan and their children. Peter Anderson (c. 1800) came from New Jersey to Charlotteville Township by 1832 when he married Huldah Maria Hibler. They lived in Townsend Township.  Includes five generations of nineteenth century descendants in Norfolk County and elsewhere. Robert Anderson (c. 1784) and his wife Delilah Nelles lived in Oneida Township, Haldimand County then came to Townsend Township by 1850. Includes children

Andrews, Allen (c. 1783) came with his father Samuel Andrews from Connecticut to Charlotteville Township by 1798 and married Jane Outhouse.  Includes their children. Andrus/Andrews, Joseph (est. 1785-1825) married Lucretia Secord and lived in Charlotteville Township.  Includes five generations of nineteenth century descendants in Norfolk County and elsewhere

Anger, Daniel Young (1811-1855) and his wife Catharina lived at Bertie Township, Welland County, Canada West then about 1845 settled in Walsingham Township, Norfolk County near Walsingham Centre. Includes three generations of descendants. Daniel’s brother Peter Anger (1826-1902) followed him to Walsingham. Includes children and grandchildren 

Argyle, William (c. 1804-) and his wife Ann brought their family from Alfreton, Derby County, England in 1842 and settled at Port Rowan. Includes three generations of descent 

Armbrust, Johann (John) (c. 1823-) came from Wurttemberg, Germany by 1850 followed by his nephew William Armbrust (1835-1897) in 1854. They settled in Middleton Township. Includes children and grandchildren

Arn, Cornelius (1812-1903) and his second wife Friedericke Armbrust came from Wurttemberg, Germany in 1846 and settled in Middleton Township, then later in Walsingham Township. Includes three generations of descendants

Arnold, John A. (c. 1798-1879) and his wife Elizabeth Barlow lived in New Brunswick then in 1830 or 1831 moved to Saltfleet Township, Wentworth County, Upper Canada. They settled near Hartford in Townsend Township by 1850. Includes parents, children and grandchildren

Atkinson, William (c. 1778- ) married Senia Morningstar a daughter of Jacob Morningstar (Morgenstern) who pioneered in Willoughby Township, Welland County. They settled in Woodhouse Township, Norfolk County by 1812 and were there during the War of 1812-14 in which William Atkinson served in the Norfolk County Militia. Their son Thomas Atkinson (1810-1860) married Clarissa Ellsworth, a daughter of Francis Ellsworth, UE, lived in Welland County then settled in South Dorchester Township, Elgin County. Younger son Robert Atkinson (c. 1819- ) married Mary Long a granddaughter of Norfolk pioneer Patrick Long and settled in Walpole Township, Haldimand County. Includes four generations of descendants in Norfolk, Welland, Haldimand and Elgin counties and elsewhere 

Austin, Solomon (c. 1744-1826) with his wife Joannah Thomas left Baltimore, Maryland and pioneered in Orange County, North Carolina.  During the American Revolution, Solomon served in the Queen’s Rangers, a Loyalist Regiment.  The couple left North Carolina with their family in 1794 and made the trek to Upper Canada, settling in Woodhouse Township. Includes four to five generations of nineteenth century descendants. James Andrews (1830-1875) immigrated from Scotland to Simcoe and married Jean Jamieson. Includes children and grandchildren 

Averill, Paul (c. 1743), a Patriot soldier from Vermont in the American Revolution,  recruited by the Pierce and Associates settlement company to establish New England people in Townsend Township in 1793.  Averill had considerable success in the founding of the township.  Includes four generations of his descendants in Ontario, Michigan and New York. The full Paul Averill story is in The Long Point Settlers Journal Vol. 2, No. 1 and Vol. 3, No. 2 ($12.00 for two issues)

Axford, Abraham and Jonathan begins with their colonial father John Axford (1735-1809) and his wife Abigail Hunt, pioneers in Oxford Township, Warren County, New Jersey.  The two sons moved to Upper Canada in 1810.  Abraham Axford (1767-1811) and his wife Mary McMurtie lived in Woodhouse Township, and Jonathan (c. 1771) with his wife Lana Pace lived in Windham Township.  Includes Abraham’s children and four generations of Jonathan’s family. Their cousin John Axford (est. 1760-1823) came from New Jersey and settled in Windham Township. Includes three generations of descendants
