Frank taught school near Napier, Ontario before moving to St. Williams with his younger brother John, where they purchased John L. Buck's (formerly D. A. McCall's) general store in 1889. Hattie and Frank married almost immediately. Frank sold the Brock Bros. partnership to his brother, left his wife and son with her parents, and joined the Yukon Gold Rush in 1898. Hattie left their son with her birth family when she followed Frank to the Yukon two years later. They lived in the Yukon for the rest of his life. She visited St. Williams almost annually, but he returned only a couple of times, once when he appeared on the 1901 Census. After Frank died Hattie lived with her sister in Seattle.
