Notes:
John, his older brother Austin, and their younger brother William, operated Stearns Bros., prominent Port Rowan lumber merchants with holdings in both Walsingham and Houghton townships. John was a Mason and a member of the local school board. He died of injuries received when his horse jumped on him. John's widow married his younger brother. Austin and William also owned land and a sawmill in Essex County. William also operated the stable beside his father's Stearns Hotel in Port Rowan. After William died, Elizabeth moved to London, and lived with her daughter, May Gunn.
