John and his brother Frank bought John L. Buck's (formerly
D.
A. McCall's) St. Williams dry goods business in 1889. Frank left the partnership for the Yukon Gold Rush in 1898.
John was St. Williams merchant until his death. John, Sadie and children lived with her birth family
in the McCall home her father built in 1867 until Sadie was the last surviving member. She then
moved to Simcoe to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren.
