Hal became editor of The Reformer in 1881 while still in his teens and held that position 41 years until selling the newspaper to George Pearce in 1922, when he assumed the presidency of his wife's family firm, Brook Woolen Company. A bicycling enthusiast in his youth, Hal was made an honorary Lt.-Col. of the 133rd Battalion for using his newspaper to encourage WWI recruitment. He was vice president of the reorganized Norfolk Golf and Country Club in 1914 under president George J. McKiee. Active in many other community organizations. Also see his photo & bio
