William H. Oliver Dr. William H. Oliver
"Who founded The Erie News -- as The Simcoe Reformer was named originally -- in November, 1855. He was born in 1824, in London, England.  Came to Canada to edit a paper published in Cobourg.  Later moved to Toronto, and in 1855 came to Simcoe.  After disposing of his interest in the Erie News, which he edited for about 18 months, he became editor of The Hamilton Times -- this in 1860. In 1865, he took up the study of medicine, receiving this M.D. degree from Victoria College. After practicing for a time in Petrolia, he went to Chicago, where he practiced his profession for over 20 years. He died in November, 1904, in his 81st year."
