H. N. Courtlandt Horatio Nelson Courtlandt
"Born Bristol, England, May, 1827. Came to Canada in 1844.  Married Sarah Jane Wilson, Dec. 31st. 1853.  Educationalist and journalist.  Established Lynn Grove Academy in Windham Township in 1850.  Taught in Otterville and Simcoe Public Schools and Simcoe High School for many years.  Graduated as a physician but never practised.  Became editor of The Alymer Express in 1883 and of The Barrie Advance in January, 1885, and remained editor for 13 years.  He returned to Simcoe in 1898, after which he became a contributor to The Simcoe Reformer, writing the weekly notes entitled 'Observations on Passing Events.'  He died on October 29th, 1907."
