Notes:
David served in the milita during the troubles of 1837-1838, came home and married Harriet Mann of Port Dover, then cleared land for a farm in Charlotteville. Realizing the timber wealth of the county, he built a saw mill in 1844 at the head of Young's Creek and worked at millwrighting as well as lumbering. He was a Justice of the Peace and often elected to Charlotteville Township Council. In 1865, with his eyesight failing, he left the business to his sons and moved to a farm near Walsh. A year before he died he and Harriet followed many of their children to Simcoe where they lived out their lives.
