Marion Elizabeth “Beth” Cardiff, UE, 87, of Simcoe, died at home, Monday, 6 Apr 2009. Survived by her son John, friend Jo Weitzel, cousins Joan Macdonald and Jean Glover, sister-in-law Marianne Jackson, nieces and nephews Stephanie, Jill and George; Bob, Steve, Brock, Lindsay and Libby; Wendy, David and Janice, their families and a wide circle of friends.

Predeceased by her high school sweetheart and husband of 60 years, Wilfred Leask “Bill” Cardiff (2003), their daughter Ellen Jeannette (1981), her brothers Bobby (1931), Bart (1991), and Bill (2007), sisters-in-law Joan (1993) and Christie (2002).

Born 3 Dec 1921 at 153 Union Street, Simcoe, the eldest child, only daughter, of Harold M. Jackson and Sarah Jeannette Brock, she was a fifth generation resident of Simcoe, a ninth generation resident of Norfolk County, and long time member of the Norfolk Historical Society. 

Beth graduated Alma College, St. Thomas, and Macdonald Institute, now part of the University of Guelph. She lived almost her entire life in Simcoe, enjoying over 75 summers with four generations of family at Port Ryerse. 

Raised in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, she was an active member of St. James United Church for 64 years, serving in many capacities including Historical Roll clerk and president of the UCW. 

Like her mother, she was a long time member of Norfolk General Hospital Auxiliary, awarded a Provincial Life Membership, Ontario Hospitals Auxiliary Association.

Beth was a Brown Owl in the Girl Guides’ Brownie program for young girls for several years. She was an avid needle pointer into mid-life, who enjoyed crossword puzzles and knitting teddy bears for charitable organizations in her later years. 

At Beth’s request, cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to a memorial service celebrating Beth’s life at 2 p.m., 17 Apr 2009 at St. James’ United Church, Simcoe, Rev. Mary Jo Patterson officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ferris Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. James United Church, Norfolk General Hospital, or the Norfolk Historical Society would be appreciated.
