"Son of Thomas and Mary Porter. Born in Townsend in 1863.  Educated at Rockford Public School and Brantford Collegiate Institute. Taught school in Townsend five years. Graduated in law in 1894. Member of law firm of Kelly, Porter and Kelly since 1894.  Member Board of Education, Simcoe, 1904-15. Chairman 1914-15. Treasurer, County of Norfolk since 1918, and Clerk since 1920. Member of Senate of Western University, 1924. Past Master Norfolk Lodge No. 10, A. F. & A. M.  Past First Principal Ezra Chapter 23, R.A.M.  Past High Chief Ranger of High Court of Ontario, I.O.F., and now High Councilor."
