1865 Village Band

Next >

"The Village Band.  Robert Tittle, Robert Juton, Sammuel Taylor, Fred Burchell,
Joseph Carter, John Buckingham, Joseph Coates, John Williamson, Edward Hobbs,
Charles Pettit, Robert Rochester, Clendon Hobbs, and the book carrier, J. Craigie Boyd.

"The above group represents one of Simcoe's earliest musical organizations, that later became the 39th Battalion Band.  Mr. Joseph Coates is the only bandsman of the early sixties who still resides in Simcoe.  The photograph was taken on the occasion of a Conservative dinner being given to Captain David Tisdale.  The big sign identifies the spot where the picture was taken as the verandah in front of the Norfolk House block. The time must have been somewhere between 1864 and 1866."
