Fred completed high school in Waterford then enrolled at the business college in Waterford. Upon completion of his business college education Fred, accepted employment with the Hard Rock Gold Mines in Geraldton Ontario. Fred married while in Geraldton and shortly after the outbreak of the second world war he enlisted in the Canadian Army. Fred went overseas as a Sgt. and while training in England he was recommended for enrolment in the prestigious military college at Sanhurst. On completion of his training at Sandhurst Fred was commissioned as a Lt. in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corp. and was later posted to the European Theater. At the cessation of hostilities in Europe Fred returned to Canada and chose the military as a career.
As a ranking officer he finished his military career in Ottawa. Fred had two sons and lived in Stitsville, just outside of Ottawa.
(This info was collected from my mother -- Mrs. Lilla Lefler
and my aunt, Bridget Barnwell -- and from military officers I have known during my military career.)
