The original photograph is the property of David McKnight of Kitchener, Ontario. It is mounted on cardboard which has been imprinted "1912 Norfolk County Council" and the names of those in the photo. The caption includes the words "Photo by Butler." J. H. Butler was a Simcoe photographer of the era.

In January 2009, David scanned sections of the photograph and cardboard backing, and snail mailed us the resulting four TIFF files to merge together. 

Our identification of those in the photo started with the printed caption on the cardboard backing of the photo. Those names were compared to a list of 1912 Norfolk County members published in the 4 Jan 1912 issue Simcoe Reformer. The caption and list are nearly identical. The Reformer provided first names for some that the photo caption identified only by initals. The Reformer list omitted the names of G. H. Smith, treasurer Roger Crysler and clerk Elias Boughner.

The photo appears to have been well taken and well preserved, although a few age-related discoloring spots are evident in some of the individual enlargements.
