A lightly edited page 1 article from the 2 Aug 1928 issue of the Simcoe Reformer newspaper.

Harrison Beauregard Donly, better known throughout Norfolk County and to hundreds of friends in Ontario and other parts of Canada as
Hal B. Donly, passed away at his home in Simcoe on Tuesday morning after a lengthy illness, in his 67th year.

One of the outstanding journalists of his day and editor of The Reformer for over 40 years, he will be remembered throughout Canada chiefly for his virile newspaper pen and in his home community where he had always lived, for the many civic improvements for which he was in large part responsible. The record of his achievements has been set down in another column of this issue by one of his oldest friends and his first business associate, Mr. Henry Johnson, whose intimate acquaintance with both Mr. Donly and his father, A. J. Donly, covers a long span of years.

Besides his widow, who was Emma, the younger daughter of Mr. Joseph Brook, he leaves one daughter, Margaret, who resides in New York City, and two sons, James and Paul, at home, as well as one sister, Mrs. (Dr.) Ivey of Cobourg. A brother, A. W. Donly, who was at one time Canadian Trade Commissioner to Mexico, died here a few months ago.

To the bereaved family The Reformer extends its heartfelt sympathy. The funeral is being held this afternoon with a service at his late residence and interment at Oakwood Cemetery, in charge of Rev. C. K. Masters, M.A.

A great host of friends and acquaintances will pay their final tribute this afternoon to one of Norfolk's most distinguished sons, a man who contributed much of real worth to his day and generation.
