Mathias Voight dies, aged 90

Has been Lifelong Resident of Middleton 
-- Leaves Many Relatives

(Observer Correspondence) Delhi:  One of the oldest and highly esteemed residents of the township of Middleton in the person of Mathias Voight passed away in his 90th year on Wednesday, January 8, 1936, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Chipps where he has made his home for the past few years.

Deceased has always enjoyed good health and had been quite active until one week ago when he was forced to bed with illness.

Born December 4, 1846 at the homestead in Middleton township where he has always lived during his whole life. On December 3, 1872 he was married to Magdalene Albright. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1922 to which occasion many friends of surrounding district were present.

Mr. Voight is the oldest member of the Rhineland Lutheran Church and at all times was a loving friend and helper in the community.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Voight were nine children, one dying in infancy and Martin, who died August 11, 1926. Mrs. Voight passed away November 24, 1930.

Surviving are two sons, Paul of Vittoria and Christian of Batthead, Alberta, and five daughters, Mrs. Mathias (Magdaline) Bilger, Mrs. Frank (Minnie) Chipps of Middleton township, Mrs. [Eli] (Margaret) Jay and Mrs. Thos. (Laura) Dickey of Delhi, and Mrs. Fred (Julia) Wall of St. Thomas.

Forty-two grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday from the home of Mrs. Frank Chipps with interment in the Rhineland Lutheran cemetery, followed by a service in the Rhineland Lutheran church, Rev. J. Wo[elfe] officiating.
