H. M. (Harold) Jackson, born 4 Jul 1897 in Simcoe, fourth son of J. B. "Bart" Jackson and Mary Eliza Jackson. Harold was a grandson of Simcoe furniture maker John Jackson and Elizabeth Hair on his father's side and of Norfolk Sheriff Joseph Jackson and Melinda Dowling on his mother's side. Harold was a law student when he enlisted, 16 Nov 1916 at Toronto. This photo was taken months later, 22 May 1918 in France. It was signed and dated by Harold. A pacifist who refused to carry a gun, Harold served on the front lines in Europe as a stretcher bearer.
