The Late Matilda Johnston [sic]

The many friends of Matilda, the beloved wife of Jacob B. Johnson [sic], were surprised to hear of her death on Friday last. Mrs. Johnson had not enjoyed good health for years, but was apparently as well as usual until Monday when she was taken ill with pneumonia, growing steadily worse until death relieved her of her sufferings.

A large number of sorrowing relatives and friends attended the funeral, which was held from her late residence on Monday 28 Feb 1910 to the Boston cemetery, the services being conducted by Rev. D. D. Burtch. The choir sang in tender notes "When the roll is called up Yonder," Miss Leta Haviland taking the solo.

The pallbearers were Messrs. L. Haviland, J. W. Rusling, Oscar Haviland, Frank Olmstead, Arthur Nelles and Richard Nelles.

The deceased had lived all her life in and around Boston. She leaves to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother, a sorrowing husband, and one son, Elba; also one brother and sister in Washington Territory, to whom the sympathy of the community is extended in this, their sad bereavement.

Obituary

It is with sad hearts we chronicle the death of Harriett Matilda Woodley, beloved wife of Jacob B. Johnson of Boston.

She was born in Caledonia, 10 Feb 1852, being the eldest daughter of David and Francis Ann Woodley. When a little girl, her parents moved to Boston, where she lived with them until her marriage to Jacob B. Johnson, on
24 May 1876. Her married life was all spent  in and around Boston, where she had many warm friends.

Early in life, our sister united with the Boston Baptist church, being baptized by Elder Rogers, where she was a regular attendant until late years, ill health being the cause of her absence. No matter what her suffering was, she was always patient and cheerful, having a kind encouraging word for all who visited her.

She was a true devoted wife and a kind, tender mother. Her only daughter, May Matilda, predeceased her in March 1898, in her 21st year. The death of this bright promising daughter was a very hard trial to the mother, but she could always see God's hand in it and would say "God knows best."

Our sister leaves to mourn their loss her husband, and son David Elba; a sister, Mrs. James Tutt of Tacoma, Washington; and two brothers, Rev. J. H. Woodley of Kent, Washington and George Woodley of Michigan.

One sister and three brothers predeceased her:
Mrs. Alison Bixley died 31 Aug 1906 in Arcade, N.Y.
David B. Woodley died 14 May 1907 in Lapier, Michigan.
Aroldo [sic] Woodley died 1 Jul 1901 in Colesville, N.Y.
Wm. Henry Woodley died 7 Mar 1851 at Caledonia.
