WALSINGHAM CENTRE

A sad event occurred on Sunday afternoon, which has cast a gloom over the village.

Five small boys went to Big Creek on the farm of Mr. Woolley for a bath, unbeknown to their parents: Alfred, Robert and George Chambers, Percy Terry and Bruce Wooley. The latter did not go into the water, the others did.

At the bank it is quite shallow but only a short distance out, it becomes about 10 or 12 feet deep, very suddenly.

It appears little Bob got on a board to float, none of them being able to swim. He floated into deep water, where he rolled off. As soon as he ceased coming up, the others gave the alarm at Mr. Woolley's house, which was less than 20 rods away.

Mr. Alvin Woolley and some friends who were there, went at once and began diving, while the news was sent through the village by telephone, and in very few minutes quite a number were at the spot.

A number of persons took turns diving, but it was over an hour before the body was found by W. L. Christmas. Willing friends worked with the little fellow for over an hour before they gave up in despair.

The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon. Much sympathy is expressed for the parents, sisters and brothers by the whole community.
