RAZING DR. JOHN ROLPH'S HOME

The wreckers are demolishing an old-fashioned brick cottage at 14 Gerrard Street East, Toronto, which was once a place of residence for the Honorable Dr. John Rolph, prominent in the Reform party of Upper Canada, and the William Lyon Mackenzie rebellion of 1837.

Dr. Rolph escaped to Rochester when the rebels were defeated, but returned to Canada in 1843, and was elected member of the Legislature for Norfolk.

Dr. Rolph was described as the "father of medicine in Upper Canada."

The property was purchased some time ago by the Women's Christian Temperance Union, and a modern residence building for young employed girls will be erected.
