Revolting Reports.

Norwich Gazette. -- Since the mysterious death of the late Mrs. (Dr.) Riddle, reports have been heralded throughout this part of the country, and in fact all over Ontario, which have had a tendency  to leave the impression upon the minds of the people that the circumstances of this death could be accounted for by the deceased's husband.

In fairness to Dr. Riddle, a man who bears an excellent reputation in this locality, where he has been for the past four years, and also in his old home, where he is probably better known as a square and upright man, we wish to say that an injustice has been done him by the reports that have been circulated.

On the witness stand at the different sessions of the inquest the doctor told in a very comprehensive manner what he knew of the sad tragedy, and has also aided the officials in every way possible to solve the mystery.

At the last sitting of the court of enquiry the proceedings of which appear elsewhere in this paper, it was brought out that only two minutes had elapsed from when seen driving home by a lady witness until the same party met him coming from his own residence in quest of help, and in this short period of time he had driven 1,ooo feet, put horse in barn, returned to the house, looked for his wife, and returned to the street for help as stated above.

In conclusion we wish to say that people should be more careful in placing responsibility in such a case, which we hope will be cleared up before long by the proper officials.
