Port Dover

Thomas Brown McBride, a former resident of the Port, passed away suddenly at Port Elgin after a day spent in assisting the Navy League canvass.

After graduating from the Normal School, Mr. McBride taught at Lion's Head for several years. Later he removed to Port Elgin, where he became a very prominent figure in the town's activities:
chairman of the Public School Board;
secretary of the North Bruce and Saugeen Agricultural Society;
chief of the fire brigade;
secretary of the Foresters' Lodge;
M.W. of the Workmen.

Last July he had the honour of the position of Deputy Grand Master of the Masonic Order conferred on him by the Grand Lodge of Canada, which met at Niagara Falls.

The funeral was perhaps the largest ever seen in Port Elgin, and was attended by members of the Masonic Order from both far and near to the number of 200.

In addition to his wife and four children, deceased leaves his brothers, John A., Samuel and Sidney of Port Dover, R. J. of Hagersville, and George of Marburg; his sisters, Mrs. A. Marr of Jarvis, Mrs. John McCarter, Mrs. [.] V. Perry and Mrs. Jos. Long of Port Dover, and Mrs. R. Cooper of Smithville, to regret his untimely demise.
