BIRTHDAY PARTY

A gathering of over 100 people met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Mason, Townsend, on Wednesday, 4 Aug 1920,
in the form of a surprise party, it being
Mr. Mason's birthday.

The guests were relatives and friends and were present from Brantford, Burford, Hamilton, and other places, besides those who live in the county.

The afternoon was spent in renewing old friendships by the older people, the younger ones enjoying a game of baseball.

Tea was served on the spacious lawn, over 100 sitting down to the tables. After tea, short speeches were delivered by
Wm. Mason of Waterford,
ex-Warden Kellum of Simcoe,
Wallace Mason of Waterford,
Stanton Porter of Burford,
Jas. Dunlop of Boston,
Geo. Erwin of Tyrrell,
R. A. McCarter of Jarvis, and
Wesley Schuyler of Jarvis.

In response to the toast "Our Host," everyone sang "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Mason made fitting replies.

As Mr. Mason has sold his farm, the family will be leaving soon and will be greatly missed, for Mr. Mason has always been a public spirited citizen and Mrs. Mason an earnest church worker, teaching in the Sunday School, past president of the Ladies Aid Society, and president of the Bible Society.

A pleasant feature of the afternoon was an invitation from Mr. C. Porter of Brantford for all to meet again at his home one year from the day.

The good wishes of this neighborhood go with Mr. and Mrs. Mason to their new home.
