John Winegarden

Yesterday afternoon at 2.30, John Winegarden of this town died of septicaemia [sic], the result of an attack of appendicitis. Deceased had had a number of attacks of this dread disease, and although his physician, Dr. Bowlby, had advised an operation, he had always declined to have one performed. He however at last yielded to persuasion and it was decided to operate upon the patient yesterday afternoon and Dr. Hicks had come up from Pt. Dover to assist, but death prevented this step. It is to be regretted that Mr. Winegarden's consent had not been obtained earlier as in that case in all probability his life would not have been cut off at the early age of 29 years, and he would have been spared to his young wife and little daughter for many years.

The late Mr. Winegarden was a young man who had spent most of his life in Simcoe and was held in high esteem by his many friends who deeply regret his early demise. Besides his young wife, for whom much sympathy is felt, he is survived by an infant daughter, his father and mother, three brothers and one sister.

The funeral takes place tomorrow, Friday, afternoon, to Oakwood Cemetery.
