Surprise and Presentation

Among the many scenes of festivity and places of enjoyment that were afforded to people on Christmas, perhaps few surprised, if any equalled, in interest and pleasure that at the residence of John VanEvery, Esq., in Townsend. 

It being Mr. VanEvery's birthday, and also the twenty-fifth anniversary of his wedding, his children conceived and carried into execution the idea of a "surprise party" and invited a number of friends and neighbors to come and join in the celebrating the event.
