Observes 85th birthday

Port Rowan: Mrs. Arthur W. Brown, nee Lenora Smith, born at
Rowan Mills, a daughter of Thomas Smith, will celebrate her
85th birthday Sunday.

Mrs. Brown has two sisters living, Mrs. G. Overbaugh of Rowan Mills,
who celebrated her 91st birthday 23 Jun 1948, and Mrs. C. Mitchener
of Clear Creek.

Her husband, a successful business man, died 27 years ago. A niece, Miss Clara Brown, has resided with her for the past 56 years.

Mrs. Brown continues to assist with household chores in spite of falling, fracturing her hip eight years ago. Confined to hospital for almost two years, she did not walk again for another year.

Mrs. Brown knitted about 200 pairs of socks and wristlets for soldiers during both World War II and WWI. She has hooked and crocheted numerous rugs and is now piecing quilts for the Baptist Ladies Aid. She seldom misses a meeting of the Aid and Women's Mission Circle.

Prior to her accident Mrs. Brown was was extremely active in the work of the Baptist Church during her residence here. She was Sunday School superintendent, president of the Ladies' Aid, church clerk, and more. She was also deeply interested in the horticultural society, her hobby being a flower and vegetable garden.
