Large Funeral of the Late Frank Riddle

Not often does the passing of one of our citizens create such deep and profound regret as was heard everywhere since it was learned that Frank Riddle, Reeve of Townsend, has passed into the great beyond.

He had been busy on Monday attending to municipal duties and had attended the Norfolk Prohibition Union meeting in Simcoe where he was active and seemed well, yet on Tuesday it was a fact, life was gone.

The late Frank Riddle was born on 2 Jun 1872 at Wilsonville and lived in that community all his life.

His occupation was the tilling of the soil and he was very active in studying best methods of improving the land.

As chairman of the Agricultural Committee in the County Council his advice was considered sound and he was very generous of his time in helping the Junior Farmers of make the best use of their soils and improve the live stock.

In his work in the Townsend Council he was anxious to build better roads to the rural people and in that way make a better living condition for them.

His new birth was at the age of 12 years under Pastor Stevenson and since that time he has been active in Sunday School and church work. He was superintendant of the local Sunday School for 12 years and secretary for 23 years. For some years he was secretary of the Townsend and Waterford Sunday school organization and was president of this organization the past few years.

Among those left to mourn the loss of Mr. Riddle are his wife, Sarah Kelly, whom he married 16 Oct 1895, his sons Elmo and Wesley and his brothers George, Will and Fred.

Perhaps the old saying "actions speak louder than words" might be noted in the beautiful tokens expressed in the flowers sent as well as the effort of many to attend the funeral on such a cold day. The Wilsonville church was filled to capacity as well as the basement by friends who came to pay their last respects. Norfolk County Council as a body were at the church sitting together on the west side.

The service at the house was conducted by Rev. Hugh Wilson and at the Church by Rev. C. Perkins of Port Dover. Six other ministers were present.
