Miss M. Provan

It was with feelings of deep regret and profound sorrow that the numerous friends and relatives heard of the unexpected death on Thursday, April 21st, of Miss Margaret Provan, of Forestville.

Miss Provan was one of the few remaining early settlers of Forestville neighborhood. She came as a girl of about ten years from Scotland with her parents, the family settling on Lot 6, Concession 1, Charlotteville, where Miss Provan spent her long and useful life.

Shortly after reaching this country, Mrs. Provan died, leaving a family of six small children. Miss Provan, who at that time was 12 years old, assumed the responsibility of a mother to the younger members of the family, and no mother could have devoted her time and energy more faithfully and Conscientiously to the bringing up of a family.

Miss Provan was highly respected and loved by the entire neighborhood. She was noted for her hospitality and kind and sympathetic nature. Having a mind well stored with knowledge, and being possessed of a retentive memory, she made an entertaining hostess. In general character she was one of nature's nobility.

Deceased leaves to mourn her passing Mrs. Gilbert Gray and
Mrs. David Gray, of Hamilton; Mrs. Simeon Beaupre of Toronto,
and Mrs. Thomas Reeves of Forestville.
