OBITUARY

The hand of death has lately been busy in our midst.
It is our painful duty to record this week the death
of Mr. Francis Porritt, in his 77th year.

Mr. Porritt was born in Yorkshire, England in 1808,
came to Canada in 1830, and settled on the lake shore near Dover. In 1835 he married Miss Ellen Rickerby
of Durham, England.

For the last sixteen years he has been a resident of Dover, during eight of which he performed satisfactorily the duties of Township Treasurer.

He was for years a member of the Township Council, and was always a consistent member of the Methodist Church being highly esteemed by the members of all denominations as an upright honorable man.

His health has been gradually failing for the last five years, and about a year since he was stricken with paralyses, from which he never fully recovered.

He leaves a widow, seven daughters and two sons,
as well as a large circle of friends and acquaintances
to mourn his loss. -- Port Dover Maple Leaf
