Death of Mr. Stephen B. Pettit

There passed away from our midst May 18th, 1915, one of the oldest and most respected citizens, Mr. Stephen Bedell Pettit, the last one of the large family of Charles and Ann Pettit, U.E.L., of Saltfleet, where he was born Nov. 13th, 1827.

With the exception of a few years his life was spent on the farm in Windham, near Vanessa. He was married to Miss Sarah Kellum on Jan. 10th, 1866. A most hospitable and happy home was formed. Here the minister of the gospel was ever welcome and the needy never turned away.

Mr. Pettit was a great reader, ever interested in the growth and improvement of his country. He was a Methodist in his religious profession and staunch Conservative in politics.

Two daughters gladdened his home, Minnie, who pre-deceased her parents by 29 years, and Mrs. C. H. Glover, with who me had made his home since the death of his wife on May 23, 1914.

Rev. Russ, of Detroit, a former pastor and friend, conducted the funeral service, assisted by Revs. Truax and Smitherman. A most excellent discourse was given from the text: Heb. 1-4. "He being dead yet speaketh."
