DANIEL OLDS, PIONEER RESIDENT
DIES IN 92ND YEAR

Daniel Olds. one of the oldest and most familiar figures in this community, passed away at the home of his stepdaughter, Mrs. Charles F. Misner, McCall Street, early Thursday morning, in the 92nd year of his age.

Of a quiet, unassuming disposition, Mr. Olds had lived continuously in Simcoe during the past forty years, and had earned the good will and respect of all with whom he came in contact.

He was born and brought up in Port Dover, where his father owned a lumber mill, and considerable property along Black Creek. There were six other sons, and two daughters, all of who predeceased Daniel. The late Mrs. Robert Culver of Waterford who died about one year and a half ago, was a sister.

Daniel Olds first followed the vocation of a ship carpenter at the lakeside, and later engaged in farming for a number of years. On moving to Simcoe he entered the employ of the late Hugh Steinhoff, with whom he worked as a carpenter for about twenty five years.

Mr. Olds was married four times, and was blessed with five children by his second wife and two by his fourth wife, whose maiden name was Ellen Tisdale, and who only died in February.

Of the first named children: Ernest, residing at Murphy, Calif.; Edward, in Arizona, and Mrs. Fyanes, of Wyandotte, Mich., survive, and two sons, Willis and Stewart, have passed away.

Catharine and Benjamin C., both of whom died at an early age, were the children of Mr. Olds and Ellen Tisdale, who were married in 1874, and would thus have observed the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding next summer. Mrs. Florence Awford, of Simcoe, is a niece of the late Daniel Olds.

Deceased was possessed of a splendid memory and delighted in recalling the early days in Norfolk County.

The funeral was held to Oakwood Cemetery on Saturday afternoon, and a large number of intimate friends and relatives were in attendance.
