Dr. Alan B. Jackson

Dr. Alan Bart Jackson, 68, long-time medical practioner in Simcoe and active in community affairs, died this morning at his residencem 135 Union Street, following a lengthy illness.

A native of Simcoe, Dr. Jackson was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Bartholomew Jackson. He received his early education in Simcoe public and high schools and his MD degree from the University of Toronto.

He conducted a general practice in Simcoe for many years and since the establishment of Norfolk General Hospital, was radiologist until officially retiring three months ago.

Dr. Jackson was a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, member of the Radiology Society of North America and the Canadian Association of Radiologists, former director of the Ontario Medical Association, former coroner for Norfolk County and one time medical officer of health for Simcoe.

He was a valued member of a number of community organizations, having been a past master of Norfolk Lodge No. 10, AF and AM; past president of the Simcoe Rotary Club, past president of the Norfolk Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society, former member of the Simcoe Board of Education and a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of AKK Fraternity, which gave him the official title of AOA. Also a noted horticulturist, he was well-known for the growing of orchids.

His first wife, the former Gertheal Eileen Hamilton, whom he married in Simcoe in 1916, died [less than 10 months ago] in 1961.

Surviving are his wife, the former Vivian Winifred Thompson; a son John Robert Jackson of Simcoe; a daughter, Mrs. J. F. Macdonald (Joan) of Simcoe; a brother, Harold M. Jackson of Simcoe; a sister, Mrs. Walter Tisdale (Mary) of Delhi; and eight grandchildren. Another son, Alan Hamilton (Brud) Jackson, lost his life while serving with the RCAF overseas in 1943.

Resting at the Marvyn M. Veale Funeral Home. 
Service in St. Paul's Presbyterian Church on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with interment in Oakwood Cemetery.
