A lightly edited partial transcription of Waterford column on page 5 of the 17 Oct 1918 Simcoe Reformer newspaper.

The first death from the Spanish influenza occurred on Sunday morning. The unfortunate was Chas. Upthegrove, only 25 years old.

He had been ill only about a week, and on Saturday night appeared some better.

He leaves a wife and three children, the youngest is only two days old, also a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Marsh. Al. Upthegrove,. and one sister, Miss Flossie.

To these the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends and relatives is extended.

The private funeral took place Tuesday. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Rev. Frank Anderson, M.A., conducted the service.
