A lightly edited partial transcript of the Clear Creek column on page 3 of the 7 Mar 1918 issue of Simcoe Reformer newspaper.

Mrs. Thomas Smith passed away on Wednesday after an illness of six days with pneumonia.

Mrs. Smith was nearly 81 years of age and since the war began has knit 118 pairs of socks.

Her children were all able to be with her when the end came.

She leaves to mourn her loss four daughter and one son:
William of Cleveland, 
Mrs. E. Nethercott of Norwich,
Mrs. Brown of Port Rowan, 
Mrs. Overbaugh of Walsingham
and Mrs. C. Michener of Clear Creek, 
to whom the deep sympathy of the community is extended.

Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Brown and their neice, Miss Dolly Brown, attended the funeral of the late Mrs. Thomas Smith, Mrs. Brown's mother, which took place at Clear Creek last Saturday.

Mrs Smith had been in failing heath for some time and had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. C. Mitcener [sic] in Houghton, where she died.

She was 81 [sic] years of age and had knit 218 [sic] pairs of socks for the soldiers.
