A lightly edited partial transcript of the Rockford column on page 5 of the 23 Nov 1916 issue of Waterford Star.

This community was painfully shocked on Thursday last when the news of Mr. Thos. Smith's sudden death was made known. Few knew even of his illness because he had only been ill a few days.

He was taken with a severe cold but pneumonia developed and the end came very unexpected.

Mr. Smith has lived in this community for a long time and was well and favorably known. He was a member of the Methodist church, at one time superintendent of the Sunday School and was also teacher of the Bible class. He had a quiet, kind, unassuming manner.

The funeral was held from his late residence on Saturday afternoon, service being conducted at the house and the remams were laid to rest in Greenwood cemetery. The large number of friends and neighbors attending showed the high esteem in which deceased was held.
