A lightly edited partial transcription of the Port Rowan column on page 2 of the 18 Jul 1918 issue of the Simcoe Reformer newspaper.

The remains of Mrs. Catherine M. Brown, who died
at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ormiston of Winona, arrived here on the night train on Tuesday for burial.

Mrs. Brown was 83 years old and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Shoemaker. She was born on
the old family homestead on the Front Road between here and St. Williams.

She was united in marriage to Willard Brown, a young man of many excellent parts, and they settled on his farm at Rowan Mills, which was their home for many years. Upon the death of husband, 16 years ago, she disposed
of the farm and had since lived with her children.

She is survived by three sons and four daughters:
Arthur of Port Rowan
Victor F. of London
Clarence L. of Windham
Mrs. M. K. Ormiston of Winona
Mrs. Ida Brown of Toronto
Mrs. C. A. Dunkley of Ridgetown
and Mrs. L. F. Morgan of Detroit.
all of whom were present at the funeral except
Mrs. Ormiston.

The remains were taken to the home of her son,
A. W. Brown. The funeral was held from there
the following day and was largely attended by
relatives and friends.

Mrs. Brown in early life became a member of the
Baptist Church in this village and still retained
her membership until the time of her death.

The services were conducted by Rev. J. M. Smith.
Interment took place in Bayview Cemetery.
