A lightly edited transcript of the Renton column on page 6 of the 9 Aug 1917 Simcoe Reformer.

There passed away on Monday afternoon, 20 Jul 1917, at the home of her son in Woodhouse, Mrs. John Rowntree Sr.

Mrs. Rowntree was born near Brantford, 
72 years ago, and was the daughter of the late Thomas Gilbert of Hartford.

She became the wife of E. R. Secord, 
52 years ago, and lived for many years in the township of Charlotteville.

Her husband predeceased her 24 years ago and she later married John Rowntree of Nelles' Corners, who survives her. 
She also leaves two sons, Daniel K. Secord of Woodhouse and Fred S. Secord, 
G.T.R. yard master at Hamilton.

The funeral took place on Wednesday, 
1 Aug 1917 from Prospect Farm to Hartford Cemetery. The pallbearers were 
Wm. Roberts, Bruce Steinhoff, Walter Pearce, Wm. Youngs, James Dufton and John W. Kniffen.
