40th Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. J. Ryerse, who are spending their days very happily together at No. 54 Argyle Street in Simcoe, celebrated yesterday the 40th anniversary of their marriage by giving a dinner to their immediate family.

Present were their four sons, Arthur, Carl, Harvey and Frank, who are all married and settled in Simcoe; the four daughters-in-law, and five grandchildren.

The eldest of their children, Ida -- Mrs. (Dr.) Wall -- is at present residing in Ontario, California, and of course could not be present.

Two of their children are deceased: , Clarence, aged 7, died in May 1900, and Bertha, aged 21, died in Jan 1906.

On 13 Feb 1876, Mr. and Mrs. Ryerse were married by Rev. Sinclair of Vittoria, assisted by Rev. Woodsworth.

The bridesmaid on that occasion was Mrs. Ryerse's sister, Maria Lea, and the best man was the late Dr. Charles E. Shearer of Charlotteville.

Of that wedding party of 25, at least 14 have passed away: Mrs. Ryerse's mother, her brothers John and George, her sister Edith, Rev. Sinclair and wife, Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Woodsworth, Mrs. Edward Lea, Charles Shearer, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Winters and others.

Mr. and Mrs. Ryerse were the recipients of some very fine presents from their children. They they may be spared in health and strength to greet the 50th anniversary of their marriage, 10 years hence, is the sincere wish of their many friends and relatives.
