A lightly edited partial transcription of the Port Rowan column on page 11 of the 13 Jun 1918 issue of the Simcoe Reformer newspaper.

By the death of George Pitman which occured at his home here last Thursday, Port Rowan lost one of its most esteemed citizens.

Mr. Pitman was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Pitman, and was born in Gloucestershire Eng. He came to Canada with his parents when but a small lad and had lived here and in the vicinity the remainder of his life.

About five years ago he was taken with cancer in the neck, which eventually caused his death at the age of 66 years.

He married Miss Emma Pitman [sic] and became the father of a respected and intelligent family.

After suffering a loss by the burning of his hardware store, he bought the farm just north of the G.T.R. station, where he lived amid happy and congenial surroundings the reminder of his life.

He had acted several times as village councillor with satisfaction to the people.

Besides a sorrowing wife he leaves to mourn his loss two sons and six daughters: 
Austin of Port Rowan, and Frank of Wisconsin; 
Mrs. W. Biddle of Erie View; Mrs. R. Mussell, 
Mrs. F. R. Evans. Mrs. G. Clemens. Mrs. M.  Clemens, 
of Port Rowan and Mrs. F. Pratt of Madison, Wis., 
all of whom were present at the funeral except Frank.

Deceased is also survived by one brother, Henry Pitman of Clear Creek, the last of a large family.

The funeral, which was largely attended, was conducted by the Rev. J. W. Peach, from the house on Sunday. Interment took place in Bayview Cemetery.

There passed away at her home on Main Street, Tuesday 15 Jan 1929, Mrs. Emma Pitman, in her [89]th year. 

She had a wonderful constitution and retained all her faculties till the end. 

The late Mrs. Pitman was born in Gloucestershire England, and came to Canada with her parents as a young girl, crossing the Atlantic in a sailing vessel.

She married on 23 Nov 1863, George Pitman, who predeceased her 10 years ago. To them were born 
10 children of whom seven survive: Austin Pitman, 
Mrs. W. H. Biddle, Mrs. Hubert Mussell, 
Mrs. Geo. F. Clemens, Mrs. M. S. Clemens, 
all of Port Rowan, and Mrs. Frank Pratt and 
Frank Pitman of Madison, Wis.

The deceased was a member of the United Church. 
The funeral, which was held Thursday afternoon, 
17 Jan 1929. Interment took place at Bayview Cemetery.
