Etc. -- One Small House on Talbot Street
Introduction | Source Documents | Other Sources | Photocopies | Back

A lightly edited transcription of a page 12 item in the 4 Apr 1918 Simcoe Reformer newspaper.

From the Simcoe correspondent of the Brantford Expositor:

Mr. Joseph Lefler, a son of the late
Hiram Lefler, who was born in Simcoe some 60 years ago, was in town for a
couple of days visiting relatives.

He has lost the sight of one of his eyes entirely, and with the other one he can
see but a short distance.

Of his eight sons, six enlisted for the war and five of them are in it still, one having returned wounded.

It is rather a peculiar circumstance that
Mr. Harry Hammond live in the home
that Mr. Lefler formerly lived in, and all
of his four sons are overseas.

So 10 soldiers, good and true, in the two families, have lived in the same
small house on Talbot Street.

This is perhaps a record for Canada.
