A lightly edited transcription of a page 1 item in the 23 Jan 1919 issue of the Waterford Star.

Delhi, 1 Jan 1919 -- Sixty eight years ago Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lyness moved to Delhi from the county of Simcoe.

Mr. Lyness died 49 years ago, and Mrs. Lyness passed away at the advanced age of 91 years, last Saturday.

She and her husband built the Lyness home on James street, and she witnessed the growth of Delhi from a pioneer settlement to the thriving town it is now.

She was one of the first to become a member of the Methodist church after it was built, her husband being one of the mechanics who constructed the old edifice.
