Mrs. Joseph Long

Following an illness of many months, the death occurred on Fri 8 Sep 1939 od Mrs. Wilmena McBride Long, widow of of the late Joseph Long , Brant Hill, Port Dover, in her 86th year.

Surviving are two daughters: 
Mrs. John Greenbury of Flint, Miciigan and 
Mrs. Clarence Ferris of Waterford, and six sons: 
John Long of Santa Barbara, California; 
Bruce and Marritt Long of Flint, Michigan; and 
George, Craig and Perry Long, all of Port Dover; 
three sisters: Mrs. Nan Cooper of Caistorville;
Mrs. Netta McCarter of Jarvis and
Mrs. Elizabeth Perry of Port Dover, and five brothers:
Robert McBride of Hagersville;
George McBride of Marburg;
Samuel, Jack and Sidney McBride of Port Dover.

Born in Woodhouse, the late Mrs. Long was the daughter of James McBride and Isabelle Austin, who were among the pioneers of Norfolk County.

Mrs. Long spent her girlhood on her father's farm at Marburg, which is now occupied bh his son George McBride, and in 1874 married Joseph Long at Black Creek, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Samuel Ebersole.

Spending her entire life in this this district, Mrs. Long was greatly beloved by all who knew her, for she possessed in a large degree, a kindly, helpful nature, with charity for all.

Also surviving are 41 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

The funeral services were held on Sunday, 10 Sep 1939 with a service at the house at 1.30 p.m., conducted by Rev. D. H. Currie, and thence to Knox Presbyterian church, where the relatives and friends, gathering to pay their respects, filled the church to capacity, and some remained outside. The pallbearers were five sons, Bruce and Merritt Long of Flint, Michigan, and George, Perry and Craig of Port Dover, and a brother, George McBride of Marburg.

Interment was in the family plot in Port Dover cemetery. The many lovely foral tributes, testified to the esteem and love with which deceased was regarded.
