A lightly edited transcript of an item on page 1 of the 17 Oct 1918 issue of Simcoe Reformer.

The news of the death of Mrs. Clara Lampkin Pew of Hammond, Ill., a bride of a few months, was received with sorrow by her large circle of friends here.

A resident of this town until a short time ago, and cashier of the Lea Estate store, she was well-known and much liked, and much sympathy is felt for the bereaved family.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Rew were ill with the Spanish influenza, and it was only a few days before
Mrs. Rew succumbed.

The body was brought here on Saturday, arriving in Simcoe upon the 2.20 p.m. Wabash express, the funeral being held directly to Oakwood Cemetery. Her former pastor, Rev. H. C. Newcombe, officiated. Her husband was unable to accompany the body here. The bearers were Harry Johnson, Earl Thompson, Geo. H. Lea,
Carl Ryerse, Orville Blume and Henry Crabbe.

Deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Lampkin of Lynn Valley, and a sister of Miss Belle Lampkin of the H. S. Falls' staff.

Mr. and Mrs. Rew were married here last March, and shortly after went to Detroit to live, removing later to Hammond.

Mr. Rew Sr. came here from Hammond to attend the funeral of his daughter-in-law.
