Etc. -- Colin LaFortune's 100th birthday

A lightly edited partial transcription of the Port Dover column on page 8 of the 2 May 1918
Simcoe Reformer
newspaper. Virtually the same article appears on page 16 of the
24 Apr 1919 Simcoe Reformer, marking his 101st birthday.

Colin LaFortune, who resides with his daughter,
Mrs. E. L. Nicholls, at the Dominion Hotel, attained the advanced age of 100 years on Tuesday, 16 Apr 1918.

His daughters, Mrs. Ira Whitehead of Simcoe,
Mrs. Fletcher Ossler of Charlotteville,
Mrs. Fred Overbaugh of Erie View,
and his only son, Frank LaFortune of Simcoe, joined his sisters in celebrating the birthday of a loved parent.

Judging by his present vigorous health, Mr. LaFortune bids fair to surpass the age attained by his four elder brothers, one of whom died at the age of 106, another at 103, another at 98 and one at 94.

An aged sister resides at Comber, Ont., and was unfortunately unable to be present on this memorable occasion.

When Mr. LaFortune first came to Port Dover, on his way to the district around Port Rowan, there was but one dwelling in the village. Though he was only in his 16th year at the time, he has a very vivid recollection of that structure which stands today practically untouched by time, which has dealt harshly with buildings which have been erected in the Port at much later dates.
