A lightly edited transcription of a page 3 item in the 10 Dec 1880 Norfolk Reformer newspaper.

We have been informed that Mr. John R. Kestell, son of our respected townsman Mr. R. M. Kestell, superintendent of N. C. Ford & Co.'s grocery department, has purched the Drug Store of Mr. Edward Matthews, in the village of Waterford.

"Jack" has for the past five years stood behind Dr. Wilson's counter and by his strict attention to business and obliging manner won the esteem of all those who have come in contact with him.

He has ever been among the foremost of those of our young men in the support of any institution having for its object the improvement of mind and morals.

We are sure we speak for all our young friend's acquaintances when we wish him every success in this, his first venture into the world of business and that it may be but the first step on the ladder to fortune.
