Onetime Slave Dies, Aged 99

Langton: Death removed one of the community's oldest residents on Thursday in the person of Mrs. Mahala Grandason, 99 year-old colored woman, who at one time was a slave in the Southern States.

She had been in failing health for some time but had been confined to her bed for only a short time. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. F. Cox of Detroit, and one son, Charles, with whom she resided.

The funeral was held from the Ostrander Funeral Home in Tillsonburg on Monday moring with the Rev. George Medley, pastor of Langton Baptist church officiating. The choir of Langton church sang an appropriate anthem. The pallbearers were: J. Brownlee, B. Brownlee, 
George Brownlee, B. Deeg, G. Deeg and C. Boyd. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery, Simcoe.
