A lightly edited partial transcript of the Port Dover column on page 5 of 17 Oct 1918 Simcoe Reformer newspaper.

Mrs. J. Butler, who died in Port Dover on 2 Oct 1918
in her 90th year, was born in the County of Welland, Ontario, 8 Apr 1829. She was of Scotch parentage, her maiden name being Jannet [sic] Sowersby.

In 1859 she was united in Matrimony with James Butler of Norfolk County. For some 25 years their home was on a farm near Marburg. Retiring from the farm, they came to Port Dover, where Mr. Butler died in 1891.

Mrs. Butler was of a kindly, gentle, retiring nature, a good neighbour, and a noble wife and mother, who loved her home and home duties, and like many others of the sterling pioneers of this province, contributed in her home her enduring contribution of service to her country.

Of her six children -- five sons and one daughter -- Allan predeased her. Left to mourn her loss are:
Robert of Inlay City, Levington of Detroit,
Silas Lakkie and Effie (Mrs. H. Cook [sic]) of Port Dover,
and William of Hamilton.

All the surviving children were present at the funeral, which took place on 5 Oct 1918. The interment was made in the Port Dover cemetery, and the sons performed the tender ministry of conveying the beloved form to its resting place in God's acre.
