A lightly edited partial transcription of the Items of Local Interest column on page 2 of the 
12 Dec 1918 issue of Simcoe Reformer

James Knowles, for many years a resident of Port Rowan, but with extensive business connections in the West, died at Moose Jaw last Thursday after a serious illness, pneumonia causing death.

The body reached here on Tuesday and the funeral was held at his residence, McCall Street, on that day at 1:30, interment being made in the Knowles family cemetery at Carholme.

He leaves a widow and five children: Morley, a returned wounded soldier now teaching in Fort William;
Leslie, now overseas;
Miss Annie of the Delhi school staff, and 
Misses Bessie and Ella.

Until a few months ago the family lived in Port Rowan. Deceased was well known in the southwestern part of the county especially. He belonged to an old Norfolk family.
