Death of
John C. Messecar
Waterford Star : Among the many
deaths in this section during the past week is that of another of
Townsend's old residents, John C. Messecar, a man well known throughout
the Township, who had many warm friends.
Mr. Messecar was only sick four
days with pneumonia. He died on the farm on which he was born, and has
always resided there. His father, John Messecar, was one of the pioneers
of Norfolk County, and Mr. Messecar is the last of a family of ten.
Mr. Messecar married Matilda
Clouse, who predeceased him some 25 years. To them was born a large family
and those who mourn the loss of a kind and worthy father are: Lewis, in
Montana; Herbert and Charles, in Idaho; Mrs. J. T. Howard, of West Seneca,
N.Y.; William, in Townsend; John, who lives on the homestead; Mrs.
We[s]ley Kelly, of Oakland, and Fred in Townsend.
Mr. Messecar was in his 77th year.
He was for years a member and deacon of the Free Will Baptist Church,
Bloomsburg. About two years ago he joined the Methodist Church in
Waterford.

Death of Mrs. John C. Messecar
Mrs. Caroline Messecar,
widow of the late John C. Messecar, died at her home in Townsend on
Sunday, March 19th, after a lingering illness of two years.
She was a daughter of the late
Wm. Hill and was born at Thorold in 1843.
There are eight children: Lewis,
of Montana, Herbert and Charles, of Idaho, William, of Bealton, John on
old homestead, Fred, of New York State, Mrs. Wesley Kelly of Oakland,
and Mrs. Thomas Howard, of Buffalo, who predeceased her by two years.
The funeral was held from her
late residence on Tuesday afternoon, interment taking place in Greenwood
cemetery.
