Death of T. H. McCord

A highly respected citizen of Port Burwell died Monday, 18 Sep 1916, in the person of Thomas H. McCord, after an illness of one year.

He was 54 years of age and was born on the north road, Houghton township, on the old McCord homestead, now occupied by his brother William.

Deceased served as a councillor for the township of Houghton at one time and also was treasurer of that municipality for several years.

In 1895 he was married to Miss Edith [sic] Burton, and from this union two children, Burton and Charlie, are still living.

After the death of his first wife, Mr. McCord conducted an implement business in Port Rowan and in 1907 was married to Miss Edith [sic] Saxton of that place, who survives him.

On his return to Houghton he dwelt on his own farm until moving to Port Burwell about five years ago, and was district superintendent for the Niagara and Erie Land Corporation from the start of that company's business in this district until last year, when ill-health compelled him to resign.

Besides his widow, deceased leaves to [sic] sons and a little daughter to mourn his loss. The brothers and sisters are: Mrs. J. A. Crawford, Fairground; Mrs. (Dr.) Tweedale, Port Burwell; Miss Matilda and William of Houghton.

The funeral was conducted under the auspices of the Orange Order at the Second Houghton Baptist Church on Thursday last.
